Saturday, July 17 from 12 PM – 6 PM

The Bridgeport Arts Fest is a one-day gathering of artists, artisans, craft-makers and musicians at historic McLevy Green in the heart of downtown Bridgeport.

Delicious food from area restaurants, craft- and home-brewed beer and Connecticut wine will be available. Live music will be featured including two of Connecticut’s top bands, both based here in Bridgeport, ST. BERNADETTE and COSMIC JIBAROS.

An alternative to other area arts festivals, this day of exciting activity provides an attractive venue for artists and artisans to exhibit and market their work in a vibrant, eclectic downtown setting.

here's a little message from Ashleigh:

My name is Ashleigh, and I'm a wife, a mother of three, and a funky artisan. I have one of those minds that never rests, I am fueled by creative energy (which I can thank my mother, and my zodiac sign for, LEO) My day dreaming brings me visions of funky monkeys , brightly colored monsters, eyeballs with personality, and quirky dolls. My toy's are a beautiful mish-mash of my own sense of humor, my children's wild imaginations, and the thrill of making people giggle uncontrollably.
I have always been artsy, writing poetry and painting for years, (thanks to teen angst for that) Once I had children my energy switched to items I could create with them in mind, something Tangible they could love on. I made my first sock monkeys out of a pair of my husband's tube socks when he went on his first deployment in 2006 (we were NAVY) so my kids could have something silly that reminded them of him. Of course then monkeys became our thing (using stuffed ones we unstitched a bit to tuck in voice recorders so he could hear us and we could here him.. over and over and over..lol) I began to make monkeys out of the funkiest socks I could find (i rarely wear socks now, just buy them with some funky creation in mind!) I generated a lot of interest just from my kids carrying around their lovies, and finally (after moving to CT, and away from deployments) started my own little ETSY shop. After monkeys came dolls, monsters, lovies made from old shirts my kids outgrew, and then I began needle felting (which can hurt tremendously but is so fun to do!)

hey everyone! some cool info just came to us, and i thought you'd all want to know!

Castleco sent us some information and is inviting people to join her in this new venture - so read what she sent along!

Hello! We are looking for Etsians to attend our first home party event!

The event will take place Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 3:00 @ 6:00 PM in the Ladies Parlor at Westfield Congregational Church in Danielson CT.

We are creating this event, meshing the formats of a home party and craft show, to bring together vendors that allow one to pamper or spoil oneself for an afternoon. The home party format can create an intimate atmosphere and the craft show format will allow varying goods and services to be at one location. Its our hope that everyone has fun and notices a boost of sales through Etsy afterwards.

We're asking for only one of each type of vendor to attend to eliminate competition (i.e. only one jeweler, one purse maker, etc.), enough vendors to provide an interesting assortment of choices but not so many that it becomes overwhelming and takes away from the intimate atmosphere. Please note that we do have a jewelry maker and soap maker.

There is a fee of $30 which covers the room rental, two weeks advertisement in two papers (http://www.shopperturnpike.com/) and food (coffee, tea and bakery). According to the Shopper-Turnpike website, they reach over 40,000 homes & PO Boxes each week and also have their mailings online. We will also provide a flyer by email and suggest that each vendor send the notice to their customer base.

first team meeting recap

on 27 march we had our first official team hartbeat meeting! it was great to get to put faces to name for the folks that came. we had some yummy food, tart and sweet lemonade, and had a general good time talking and getting to know one another.

we had a little craft swap, which was super fun, and i hope everyone else was as excited as i was to take home a present!

a big thanks to aesthetikara, Fabric Blooms, Fern Street Designs, KCs Hammer, and boutique girl gifts for coming out! a HUGE thanks to cute.n.boot for hosting the meeting and providing us with delicious goodies!

i really enjoyed all the etsy advice and info that was shared in this meeting, and can't wait until we can all get together again. there was talk of perhaps doing a craft supply swap next time, so start thinking about all the stuff you have that you haven't been using and know that you won't use. what a great way to clean out your craft stuff and maybe get some new craft stuff that you need or want. stay tuned for a date and time on that, coming soon!

team Hartbeat's first meeting this Saturday!!!
I'm too excited for words!the focus of this meeting is to, well....
meet each other,
but most of all it is a chance for all of us to get out of the house, share our crafts with our peers and have fun! i have a few activities planned that i think well be perfect for getting to know everyone better and have a blast.

Bring something to work on, whether it is a sweater you've been knitting, some bookmarks you've been making, or just a sketch book, we would love to see what you like to do!

We will be composing a grab bag with a sample of everyone's goods so please feel free to bring us a sample of one of your products to include!

We will be providing some drinks and snacks but if you would like to bring something to add to the spread please do!

I love fabric and love to craft and sew. I started quilting about 10 years ago and now I am a stay at home mom with 3 little kids so when I don't have a lot of time for large projects I do more small crafting with fabric. I am also passionate about the environment and I started making reusable snack bags a little over a year ago. I was selling quite a few privately so finally took the plunge and opened my etsy shop this January. I specialize in reusable snack bags and those are my biggest seller, but I have a few other fabric items listed in my shop as well. Aside from making my snack bags, my favorite fabric craft is creating fabric flowers in the style of Japanese Kanzashi (basically it is like origami but with fabric instead of paper). I love to make kanzashi flowers and I sell them as pins or hair clips. I also make little hair clip travel cases, crayon rolls, and a few other little things.
